A man is accused of killing his 61-year-old sister, prompting a large police presence on Western Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.
Albany Police responded to the 400 block of Hudson Avenue near South Lake Avenue at around 8:10 a.m. for reports of an unresponsive woman with a significant head injury.
The victim was pronounced dead on scene, and her identity is not being released at this time. Police said her 60-year-old brother caused her death before running away from the scene.
The suspect was later found at a residence at 173 Western Ave, where the Albany Police Department’s Emergency Service Team and Crisis Management Team responded to the scene. After a standoff, officers used tear gas to get him to surrender.
The names of neither the suspect nor the victim have been released.
