Following the shortage of medical gowns during the COVID-19 pandemic, six US companies will spend at least $350 million to manufacture medical gowns for the Strategic National Stockpile.
The purchase aims to replenish the stockpile, which was depleted early in the pandemic due to inadequate restocking in previous years.
The new gowns are among the many purchases the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response has made in recent years to restock the emergency coffers.
According to Assistant Secretary Dawn O’Connell, this investment is a key step in shoring up the personal protective equipment in the stockpile.
