A surprisingly faithful portrait of Bruce Springsteen, starring Jeremy Allen White, digs into Springsteen's psyche.
The Nebraska-era biopic finds plenty of fan-friendly gold, with White's portrayal of Springsteen as a man paralyzed by new-found fame and haunted by his non-relationship with his father.
“Man makes record in bedroom”
does not sound like a movie pitch, but director Scott Cooper stays close to the! small-scale story. White's performance is magnetic, particularly when rocking out with the E Street Band or communing with guitar and TASCAM as the quiet songs of Nebraska take shape.
