The Village of Oil Springs has applied for a provincial fire protection grant to purchase an air exchanger for the Oil Springs and South Enniskillen Fire Department.
The grant aims to support cancer prevention initiatives for municipal firefighters, allowing for the purchase of equipment, supplies, and minor infrastructure upgrades.
According to Oil Springs Clerk Martha Gawley, the grant would cover half of the $16,000 cost of the air exchanger.
This effort is part of a larger provincial initiative to enhance firefighter health and safety, following a 2024 Ministry of Labour recommendation for new washrooms and shower facilities to decontaminate after calls.
The village wants to protect its volunteer firefighters.
