Tinubu-Appointed Joash Amupitan Confirmed by Senate as New INEC Chairman

The Senate has confirmed Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Amupitan, a Professor of Law, was confirmed following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu and subsequent screening by the upper legislative chamber.

During the plenary, lawmakers engaged the nominee in an intensive two-hour session, questioning him on his vision for electoral transparency, digital innovation in election management, and strategies to rebuild public confidence in the electoral system.

Amupitan, 58, pledged to uphold the independence of the electoral body and pursue comprehensive reforms aimed at improving the credibility of elections in Nigeria.
