Failure of Pa.'s Mental Health System
An investigation into Pa.'s mental health system reveals that the idea that individuals are to blame when they can't or don't get help is being challenged.
Through an examination of thousands of pages of documents from 140 public records requests, analysis of state and local spending data, and interviews with dozens of officials, advocates, and individuals navigating the system, the newsroom shed light on the issue.
In partnership with the Lehigh Valley Justice Institute, Spotlight PA conducted a unique analysis of mental health spending and services in all 67 counties, tracking cuts and the resulting decrease in people served.
