Ward 11 Coun. Bill Leduc's motion to recoup costs associated with the cancellation of the automated speed enforcement program was rejected by city council.
Leduc introduced the motion during Tuesday's council meeting, stating that if the province cancels the program, it should compensate the city.
“I hope that by sending a letter to Mr. Ford and the minister of transportation, it’ll give them an opportunity to re-evaluate or to consider keeping the speed enforcement cameras in the school zones, at least.”
Leduc noted that Premier Doug Ford is against automated speed enforcement cameras, but the public wants them to remain in school zones.
