Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed that he nearly hired a Super Bowl-winning head coach "several times."
The Cowboys, led by first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer, will face the Denver Broncos, coached by Sean Payton, in a Week 8 matchup.
Payton, who served as assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach for the Cowboys from 2003-05, has been considered a potential head coaching hire for Dallas over the years.
"He was never there when we needed to be thinking about making a change. The timing never fit,"
Jones said during his weekly radio appearance with 105.3 The Fan.
