The Grand River is running higher and faster than it has in weeks due to steady October rainfall.
Over the past eight days, West Michigan received 2.3 inches of rain, the region's wettest stretch since early April. This month, October has seen 3.2 inches of rainfall, making it the wettest month in Grand Rapids since March.
The Grand River's water level in downtown Grand Rapids tripled in five days, rising from 0.8 feet to 2.6 feet. Previously, the levels from September through mid-October were the lowest on record. The rain has also improved drought conditions, with central Kent County now classified as "abnormally dry" according to the Drought Monitor's October 23 update.
