Grant from China to Establish New Universities in Ghana

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, announced that President John Dramani Mahama has dedicated a grant from the Chinese Government to establish new universities in Ghana.

Speaking at the launch of the Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities initiative in Accra, the Minister revealed that President Mahama secured 200 million Renminbi (RMB) from China, equivalent to between 27 and 30 million US dollars, to support Ghana's higher education sector.

"I am happy to announce that President Mahama, a few weeks ago, was in China, and the Chinese government was benevolent and generous enough to give Ghana some 200 million RMB."

The grant was offered during the President's visit to China, demonstrating the Chinese government's "benevolence and generosity" towards Ghana's education sector.
