New Law Proposal for Foreign Residents in France
A new law proposal aims to simplify the renewal process for foreign residents in France, backed by a large number of socialists.
MP Fatiha Keloua-Hachi proposed the law, stating that foreign residents with multi-year residency cards or 10-year cartes de résident should have their cards renewed automatically, avoiding "pointless legal fragility" due to renewal delays.
"administrative simplification" and a "mark of confidence by the Republic towards all those that it welcomes and who in turn enrich it"
The proposal suggests that automatic renewal would apply, except in cases where officials have "legal reasons" to oppose it, which they would have to demonstrate.
The whole community could benefit from this measure, as it would free up time for civil servants.
