Nazi-Looted Kirchner Watercolor Acquired by Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
A watercolor by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Im Bett liegender Mann (Selbstbildnis) (Man Lying in Bed [Self-Portrait], 1917-18), has been donated to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA).
The work was restituted to the descendants of collectors Ludwig and Rosy Fischer earlier this year.
The donation is part of the Ludwig and Rosy Fischer Collection and was previously owned by Annemarie and Günther Gercken, who voluntarily restituted it to the Fischer family.
Im Bett liegender Mann (Selbstbildnis) is a significant addition to the VMFA collection.
