E-commerce giant Temu has agreed to collaborate with the greeting card industry to accelerate the removal of designs that infringe intellectual property (IP) rights.
Publishers and design businesses have expressed concerns about the growing availability of copycat designs on online marketplaces. Following advocacy from the Greeting Card Association (GCA), Temu is introducing new software to bulk-identify and remove plagiarized designs from its platform.
This initiative forms part of Temu's wider IP protection program, which includes the Brand Guardian Initiative, launched in April 2024. The program aims to help brands protect their IP and give customers more confidence in the authenticity of their purchases.
Amanda Fergusson, the GCA's CEO, noted that members have had to invest time and resources to protect their IP, in addition to the financial impact.
