Matthew Tevnan and Harry Missing, seniors on the UVM men's rugby team, have become a familiar sight on campus, riding a tandem bike to class and practice.
"Never tandem alone"
The two met in their first year and have been inseparable since, even moving in together in their junior year. The idea for the tandem bike was born out of a casual conversation.
"We were just sitting around our dining room table, we were like 'Wouldn’t it be fun if we had a tandem bike and rode it to class and rugby practice every day?'"
They found the bike on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace and have been riding it to class, rugby practice, and off-campus locations like the YMCA. Missing and Tevnan have a consistent riding arrangement.
"I’m top, he’s bottom,"
said Missing, who always rides in the front with Tevnan in the back. Tevnan joked that it takes skill to ride in the back.
"It takes a real mastermind to be in the back, so I don’t really want to put it in his hands,"
