International Symphony Orchestra Leaders Hope for Its Return

The International Symphony Orchestra was preparing for its 68th season in September, but weeks later, the season was cancelled due to financial difficulties.

According to treasurer Brian Austin Jr., the semi-professional orchestra had been experiencing declining ticket sales and a decrease in memorial gifts and grants. With less than $65,000 in assets, the orchestra attempted a last-minute marketing push to keep the season alive, but ultimately decided to pause when ticket sales were unsuccessful.

“we were maybe optimistic and we thought we could push to get ticket sales up to a point where it would cover enough of the expenses and we could move forward,”

Managing director Dinah Bianchi noted that an expected Canada Revenue Agency refund has not been received, further complicating the orchestra's financial situation.

“We are still expecting that to come, at some point,” she said.

The orchestra leaders are hoping for the orchestra's return, but the future remains uncertain.
