Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, has announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm.
His immediate resignation from House District 121 has triggered a special election to be held in December. Currently, Democrat Eric Gisler is running for the House seat in 2026 and may also choose to run in the special election.
This is not the first instance of a State Representative for Oconee resigning and triggering a special election. In 2017, special elections were held to fill the seats of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick, resulting in Democrats Jonathan Wallace and Deborah Gonzalez winning both House seats representing Oconee County.
No comment from Wiedower on the future of his political career.
