Victorian Law Reforms to Speed Up Housing Approvals
The Victorian Government has introduced a new bill aimed at cutting red tape and speeding up housebuilding, promising the "biggest overhaul of Victoria's planning laws in decades".
Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny introduced the Planning Amendment (Better Decisions Made Faster) Bill 2025, which updates the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and creates three separate pathways for planning approvals.
- Stand-alone homes and duplexes: 10 days
- Townhouses and low-rise developments: 30 days
- Larger apartment buildings: 60 days
