Meridian High School's field hockey team defeated Kettle Run Cougars 2-1 in overtime, punching their ticket to states.
The game was the second meeting between the two teams in 12 days, with Meridian winning both times. Emma Flanagan scored 90 seconds into overtime, after previously scoring the only goal against the Cougars two weeks ago.
The first half was scoreless for both teams, until Zorah Randhawa got the Mustangs on the board late in the third period. This win follows a shootout against Fauquier in their regular season finale.
Meridian required extra minutes for the second consecutive game.
