The Wayfarers accessibility project aims to create new pathways for outdoor recreation, addressing the challenges faced by thousands of Montanans living with disabilities in accessing treasured landscapes.
Western Montana, with its monumental peaks and vast valleys, is a haven for outdoors enthusiasts, but for people like Kalispell resident Erin Hoch, whose son Jaxen Flores uses a wheelchair due to a rare genetic disorder, finding accessible trails and facilities can be difficult.
While the family enjoys time outdoors, Hoch said she struggles to find trails and facilities that accommodate Jaxen’s mobility needs.
This project seeks to change that, creating new opportunities for outdoor recreation and making Montana's beautiful landscapes more accessible to all.
