The Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors voted 4-3 to reduce the recommended data center setbacks from residential property lines and public spaces.
The board decided to keep data centers 400 feet from residential property lines and added several public spaces to the proposed ordinance, including hospitals, daycares, parks, places of worship, and public and private schools.
A joint work session was held with the planning commission to discuss design standards for data centers on land zoned Industrial, reversing the previously agreed 1,000-foot setbacks.
The supervisors voted to advertise 300-foot vegetated buffers and 400-foot setbacks.
