Lib Dems Defeat Farage's Bill to Withdraw from ECHR
The Liberal Democrats have successfully led the fight in Parliament and defeated Nigel Farage's Ten Minute Rule Bill on withdrawing the UK from the European Convention on Human Rights.
Farage wants to do away with the Britain Churchill built and turn it into a version of Trump's America. The Liberal Democrats stopped him.
The final vote on Wednesday, 29 October, was 154 against and 96 for. Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey gave an impassioned speech in defence of the European Court of Human Rights, citing numerous examples of when the institution helped British citizens get justice and keep important checks and balances in place to stop state overreach.
