Concern about Newsroom AI at Future of Independent Media Summit
Community engagement and funding were among the issues discussed at the meeting organized by Press Forward on Oct. 4 at Carleton University.
AI is “unlikely” to help journalism, and AI-generated summaries will present yet another barrier for news publishers’ ability to reach their audiences.
According to technology journalist Paris Marx, this was one of the concerns raised at the summit. The event, held at Carleton University, brought together publishers, funders, and others invested in the future of journalism to share ideas and solutions to strengthen the sustainability of the independent media ecosystem.
