Harry Houdini's Death

On October 31, 1926, celebrated magician Harry Houdini died of peritonitis in a Detroit hospital.

According to history.com, twelve days prior to his death, Houdini had been speaking to a group of students after a lecture in Montreal, where he commented on the strength of his stomach muscles.

He mentioned their ability to withstand hard blows, but suddenly, one of the students punched Houdini twice in the stomach, rupturing his appendix.

Houdini fell ill on the train to Detroit and, after performing one last time, was hospitalized. Despite doctors operating on him, the efforts were unsuccessful.
