Taxi and Private Hire Firms Back Open Letter on 'Taxi Tax' Ahead of Budget

Taxi and Private Hire Firms Oppose 'Taxi Tax'

Veezu and 58 other private hire operators have signed an open letter to Chancellor Rachel Reeves, urging her to exclude private hire journeys from a 20% VAT rate in the Autumn Budget.

The measure, referred to as the “Taxi Tax”, could increase costs for millions of passengers and threaten the future of small and medium-sized operators.

Operators warn that applying a blanket VAT rate would reduce the number of driver-partners and damage local economies, particularly the night-time economy.

The Autumn Budget is expected to address this issue on 26 November.

Author's summary: Firms oppose the "Taxi Tax" ahead of the budget.
