Chilean Retiree Returns Ancient Greek Marble Fragment

A Chilean retiree, Enrico Tosti-Croce, has returned an Ancient Greek marble fragment that his father took in the 1930s.

Enrico's father, Gaetano Tosti-Croce, an Italian naval officer, had taken a piece of the Acropolis during a visit to Athens.

“When I heard the news, I said: ‘Wow, I have a little piece of the Parthenon’”

This decision was sparked when Enrico heard on the radio that the Greek government was asking the British Museum to return its famous Parthenon Marbles, which have been the subject of a repatriation fight since 1983.

Enrico Tosti-Croce arrived in Valparaíso, Chile, in 1950 from Genoa, and has now returned the marble fragment to its country of origin.
