Heroic Staff Member Named After Mass Stabbing

A staff member of York-based train company LNER, who was seriously injured while trying to protect others during a mass stabbing, has been named as Samir Zitouni, 48.

Zitouni, who has worked for LNER for over 20 years, is credited with helping to save multiple lives after passengers came under threat, according to his employer.

"In a moment of crisis, Sam did not hesitate as he stepped forward to protect those around him,"

said David Horne, LNER's managing director. The family of Zitouni described him as a hero, saying

"To us, he's always been a hero"

British Transport Police reported that an LNER worker remains in hospital in a stable condition but critically unwell.
