Alex Salmond's Legacy
Alex Salmond, Scotland's former first minister, passed away last year after a heart attack in North Macedonia.
Salmond played a crucial role in bringing Scotland to the brink of independence in 2014 and establishing the Scottish National party as a mainstream group.
However, his career was marred by allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, which led to two court battles in an attempt to clear his name.
The prosecution against him arose, in substantial part, from motives of malice on the part of his enemies.
According to the Sunday Times, Salmond died almost penniless in 2024 due to the financial strain of these battles.
