Democrats have made significant gains in both the Suffolk and Nassau County Legislatures, unseating a Republican incumbent in Suffolk and claiming an open seat in Nassau.
In Suffolk's 1st District, Democrat Greg Doroski defeated Republican Legis. Stark for the North Fork seat. This win, along with the claim of an open seat in Nassau, marks a notable shift in the balance of power in both legislatures.
“In Suffolk County, when we get knocked down, we get right back up and we’re ready to fight,”
said Suffolk Democratic chairman Richard Schaffer, reflecting on the results.
While no other incumbents appeared to be ousted in either county, final results were still pending early Wednesday in Nassau's 9th district, where incumbent Republican Scott P. Strauss was leading Democrat Juleigh Chin.
