Election Roundup: Lumberton City Council Members Reelected

Lumberton City Council members Melissa Robinson, John Carroll, John Cantey, and Owen Thomas have been reelected to their positions.

Each member was the only name on the ballot and won by a wide margin. In Precinct 5, John Cantey, the senior member of the council, won with 202 votes, more than 88% of the total, despite two write-in campaigns by Keith Copeland and Darryl Genus.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank God, all of our church families, civic groups and especially the residents of Precinct 5 for entrusting me to a sixth term as their representative,”

Cantey said, adding that his decisive victory indicates the residents' preference for his representation. He has served on the board since 2005 and has won a sixth term.
