Channel Nine faces a major change as longtime weather presenter Livinia Nixon has announced her departure from 9News Melbourne after 20 years on air. Known for her warm personality, Nixon revealed she will be stepping back to prioritize her family.
“After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I’ve decided to step back from this role. My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It’s been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers’ homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family,” she said, referring to her sons Henry and Ted.
In her statement, Nixon reflected on her career, saying that presenting the weather shaped both her life and profession.
“I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me. When I discussed it with our boys, they said ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.’”
Livinia first joined Channel Nine in 1997 after gaining national recognition on Hey Hey It’s Saturday alongside game show veteran Daryl Somers. Over the years, she became one of the network’s most beloved figures.
Although stepping away from the nightly weather desk, Nixon confirmed she will remain with the network in her travel show roles.
“I’m thrilled to be staying with Nine and will be continuing my roles on Getaway and Postcards.”
After two decades as the face of 9News weather, Livinia Nixon is leaving her role to focus on family while continuing with Nine’s travel programs.
