The New Jersey Devils (9-3-1) welcome the Montreal Canadiens to the Prudential Center to start a three-game homestand. The winner of tonight's game will be the first in the league to reach 10 wins this season.
The Devils held a morning skate at Prudential Center ahead of the game. Center Cody Glass returned to the ice after missing seven games due to an upper-body injury.
“It was a weird injury to have, it popped out of nowhere. I'm happy to be back with the guys,” said Glass.
He added, “I'm 100 percent and shouldn't be limited at all. I'm just trying to jump right into it, get hit, see how it goes. It's hockey.”
Forward Connor Brown, who practiced recently but has missed the last two games, was not on the ice.
With Glass back, the Devils will re-form the lines that powered their eight-game winning streak. Glass will return to his third-center (3C) position, allowing Mercer to move to wing and rejoin Nico Hischier and Timo Meier. This also reduces some defensive pressure on rookie Arseny Gritsyuk, who shifts down to the third line.
The Devils aim to sustain momentum as Glass’s return strengthens key line combinations ahead of a crucial game.
