NEOM to Launch First Commercial Green Hydrogen Production in 2027
Saudi Arabia’s NEOM, a key project under the Public Investment Fund, is advancing rapidly as the Oxagon industrial city and the NEOM Green Hydrogen initiative approach operational stages. These two ventures aim to spearhead the nation’s transition to clean energy and modern industries.
This development supports the Vision 2030 objectives, which focus on reducing carbon emissions and diversifying the economy by creating integrated industrial and technological ecosystems powered by renewable energy and innovation. The advancements fortify NEOM’s role as a worldwide center for sustainable industries and cutting-edge technologies.
Project Details and Timeline
Wesam Alghamdi, CEO of NEOM Green Hydrogen Company, announced that commercial production is expected to start in 2027, following testing and commissioning phases planned for 2026.
“The project is one of the key pillars of the kingdom’s clean-energy transition and aligns with Vision 2030 targets for decarbonization and net zero emissions.”
The NEOM Green Hydrogen Company is a joint venture between ACWA Power, Air Products, and NEOM. The project is based in Oxagon, the industrial city part of the larger NEOM development.

- Hydrogen production plant located in Oxagon industrial city
- Solar energy field approximately 80 kilometers east of Oxagon
- Wind turbine site about 120 kilometers north of Oxagon
The combination of these sites aims to deliver clean hydrogen fueled by renewable energy sources, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to sustainable growth.
