Fans of the musical “Wicked” can once again visit the magical world of Oz with the premiere of the television special “Wicked: One Wonderful Night.” The event will be co-hosted by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo and broadcast live on NBC on Thursday evening, with simultaneous streaming on DirecTV. It will later be available on Peacock starting in November.
The two-hour program continues the story of “Wicked” and lets audiences enjoy beloved tracks brought to life on stage, including favorites such as “Defying Gravity” and “Popular,” along with previews of “For Good” and “The Girl in the Bubble.”
“I am absolutely delighted to let you in on a centerpiece of our campaign for the second film, and it’s something that’s never been done in the 22-year history of ‘Wicked,’” said director Jon M. Chu, who announced the special during NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation in New York.
The special airs Thursday night on NBC and streams live on DirecTV. Beginning in November, viewers can also watch it on Peacock.
