Opposition Response to Ley's Leadership

Scott Buchholz, Opposition skills and training spokesman, warned against misinterpreting Sussan Ley’s "feminine politeness" as weakness. The Queensland MP contrasted Ley’s leadership style with that of her predecessor, Peter Dutton, calling Dutton’s approach "authoritarian."

"Don’t mistake her feminine politeness for weakness. We have come from a previous leadership style of authoritarian [under Dutton] to now a consultative, and some people mistake that, but there are just different styles of leadership."

Buchholz also criticized Victorian Liberal senator Sarah Henderson for comments made earlier about Ley, describing those remarks as "career-limiting" once made aware of them.

He explained that the party is still grappling with the aftermath of the May election defeat and is in a period of healing.
