Justin Rose's management has informed Today's Golfer that the English golfer plans to focus on playing in one more Ryder Cup before considering a captaincy role.
The contenders for Europe’s next Ryder Cup captaincy appear to have narrowed down to two candidates. In July, speaking at the Genesis Scottish Open, Rose expressed his desire to lead the team at Adare Manor in 2027, saying he would “give everything” when the time comes.
After winning the FedEx St Jude Championship — the first of the PGA Tour’s season-ending playoffs — Rose secured an automatic spot on Luke Donald’s team at Bethpage. His strong performance in New York, where he earned two points and reached 17.5 total points in Ryder Cup play, placing him in the all-time top 10, has fueled his eagerness for another competition.
According to a recent Telegraph report by James Corrigan, sources close to Rose confirm he aims to play in an eighth Ryder Cup. When contacted, Rose’s team confirmed:
“He does want to play in another one,” but he has not yet held any talks with Ryder Cup Europe’s decision makers as he focuses on recovering after playing 20 events in eight months.
In an interview at Renaissance, Rose clearly stated he is not interested in taking on a player-captain position:
“I’m not sure that’s a role we should be entertaining really,” he said.
Justin Rose prioritizes playing in one more Ryder Cup before any captaincy, clearly ruling out a player-captain role as he prepares for his continued competitive career.
