UTSA to Face South Florida in Second Consecutive Thursday Night Game
The Roadrunners are celebrating their 15th football season in 2025. As one of the newer programs in the FBS, UTSA has quickly established itself after starting the program from scratch.
Program History and Conference Membership
- Practice year in 2010 followed by an FCS Independent season in 2011.
- Joined the Western Athletic Conference in 2012.
- Moved to Conference USA in 2013 and became a full FBS member in 2014.
Attendance Records and Early Success
In 2011, UTSA set NCAA modern startup records:
- 56,743 fans attended the inaugural game against Northeastern State.
- Average home attendance was 35,521 for six games that season.
Milestones and Achievements
- First postseason appearance at the 2016 New Mexico Bowl, in just their sixth season.
- First win against a Big 12 team came in 2017 with a 17-10 victory over Baylor.
- In 2021, made history with a road win over Illinois (Big Ten), their first conference championship after beating WKU 49-42, and finished with a 12-2 record including a bowl game appearance.
- Repeated as league champions in 2022 with a 48-27 win over North Texas and completed their third straight bowl season, finishing 11-3.
