Comedian and television personality Mel Tracina will host the 2025 season of Big Brother Australia, premiering on Channel 10 in November. The show returns to its original network and early format, promising fans the nostalgic feel that made it a national obsession in the early 2000s.
The reality series, which first aired on Channel 10 in 2001, captivated audiences for eight seasons with unforgettable moments — from awkward romances to unique contestant twists like twins posing as one person. Over the years, it launched the television careers of Chrissie Swan, Reggie Bird, and Sara-Marie Fedele.
Mel Tracina, 36, best known for her work on The Cheap Seats, now steps into a role formerly filled by Gretel Killeen and Sonia Kruger. As a long-time fan, she aims to bring humor and a deep appreciation for the show’s legacy to the 2025 reboot.
“Big Brother is such a loved show,” Mel told The Weekly. “Around the world, and especially in Australia, the excitement for the return of it and to go back to the OG format has been so great to hear.”
The new season will feature live nominations, evictions, and 24/7 streaming access — all hallmarks of the show’s early success. According to Mel, this level of audience involvement is what makes Big Brother so engaging for Australian viewers.
“I love that the Australian public decide who stays and leaves,” she said.
The beloved Big Brother Australia franchise returns to Channel 10 with Mel Tracina at the helm, promising fans a lively reboot true to its early spirit and audience-driven drama.
