The New York Knicks dominated inside, scoring 62 points in the paint and 31 second-chance points off 21 offensive rebounds. After confident wins over Charlotte and Brooklyn, Minnesota faced a harsh reality check on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks overwhelmed Minnesota’s defense, cruising to a 137-114 victory and spoiling Anthony Edwards' return to the Timberwolves’ lineup.
Edwards returned after missing four games with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. Although initially expected to be sidelined for two weeks, typical recovery from such an injury is 7 to 10 days. Wednesday marked the 10th day since the injury.
Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said before the game Edwards was “itching” to get back on the floor.
Despite the eagerness, Edwards struggled in his 29 minutes on the court, and the Timberwolves were outscored by 25 points while he played. For Minnesota to challenge strong teams, Edwards must raise his effectiveness.
Minnesota has handled weaker teams like Charlotte and Brooklyn comfortably but has struggled against quality opponents. Their losses include games against Denver, the Lakers (twice), and now the Knicks.
The Timberwolves have beaten teams like Charlotte, Brooklyn, and Indiana, all of whom are projected to finish near the bottom of the NBA standings.
The Timberwolves need stronger defensive efforts and improved contributions from Edwards to contend with top teams this season.
