SiriusXM Bid to Drop Class Action Lawsuit Over Hidden Fees Fails

A federal judge has refused to throw out a class action lawsuit against SiriusXM, which accuses the satellite broadcaster of hiding a 21.4% “U.S. Music Royalty Fee” from subscribers.

The lawsuit was originally raised by four Oregon residents in June 2024, alleging that SiriusXM engaged in a deceptive pricing scheme, falsely advertising its music plans at lower prices than it actually charged.

SiriusXM filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit in April 2025, arguing that the lawsuit was filed too late and that it should be denied as moot because SiriusXM has since changed its advertising practices.

SiriusXM has changed its advertising practices to include “all-in pricing” on all advertisements to conform with a new California law.

Author's summary: SiriusXM faces class action lawsuit over hidden fees.
