Mikaela Shiffrin achieved her best World Cup giant slalom finish in 21 months, coming in fourth at the Alpine skiing season opener in Sölden, Austria.

Starting with bib 20, Shiffrin was sixth after the opening run and improved two spots. This result marks a significant step forward since her crash in November.

“It’s huge,” Shiffrin said after the race.

The race was won by Austria’s Julia Scheib, with Shiffrin’s teammates Paula Moltzan and Nina O’Brien placing second and sixth, respectively.
