Ericsson, Nokia Collaborate on 6G Video Research
Nokia, Ericsson, and the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute have presented a proof-of-concept for a technology designed to address 6G video needs.
The newly developed codec offers higher compression efficiency than current standards without significantly increasing complexity, and also provides improved energy efficiency and scalability.
There is “early evidence” that the technology is “capable of meeting the requirements for the next video coding standardisation phase”
- The proof of concept was positively evaluated by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group and ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group.
- The technology is designed to address the expected needs of immersive media and mobile content in the 6G era.
