How Microgrids Co-located with Data Centers and in Phases Can Meet Energy Demand

Meeting Energy Demand with Microgrids and Data Centers

Data centers and utilities can meet rising energy demand by building facilities near energy sources, such as microgrids, which is also more cost-effective.

According to A.J. Javan, founder and CEO at Qoob, building smaller data centers powered by local energy, including microgrids, is crucial for meeting the anticipated high energy demand from data centers and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

“If you can develop a power plant and data center at the same location, you don’t have to spend on the delivery of power far away where the data center is located,”

he said. The International Energy Agency expects worldwide data center electricity demand to double by 2030 to approximately 945 TWh, with AI accounting for much of the increase. Javan's company develops smaller-sized data centers powered by “dynamic” microgrids.

Author's summary: Microgrids can meet energy demand.
